1. Start with TikTok’s Creative Center (free)
TikTok’s Creative Center shows what’s popular right now: trending hashtags, songs, creators and videos, which you can filter by country and time period. It also has a Top Products section for ecommerce. Look for products or hashtags that are rising over the last 7 or 30 days in your customers’ country, not just the overall top list.
2. Search TikTok like a shopper
- Type a product type into TikTok search and look at the autocomplete suggestions: they show what people actually type.
- Open the Shop tab and look at what is already selling in that category, and at what price.
- Read the comments on popular videos. Comments like “where can I buy this?” or “link?” are a stronger buying signal than views alone.
- Note how many different creators are posting the same product. Many creators in a short time means it’s trending; hundreds of identical listings means it may already be crowded.
3. Check demand outside TikTok
Put the product name into Google Trends and compare the last 12 months. A steady or rising line is safer than a single sharp spike, which often drops as fast as it rose. Check the season too: some products only sell for a few weeks a year.
4. Run the 5-point profit test
- Margin: after the TikTok fee, creator commission, shipping and ads, is there still profit? Run it in the calculator.
- Shipping speed: TikTok Shop US expects orders to be shipped within 2 business days and delivered within 6. Can your supplier do that? See shipping rules.
- Brand and trademark risk: avoid copies of branded products. Search names in the USPTO trademark search (or TMview for the UK and EU).
- Restricted category: check TikTok Shop’s prohibited and restricted product rules in Seller Center.
- Repeat purchase: consumables and refills bring customers back; one-off novelty products need a constant stream of new buyers.

5. Test small
Order samples, make 3–5 short videos showing the product solving a real problem, and look at real results before you buy stock in bulk. If you work with creators, set a commission you can afford (check it in the calculator first) and send samples to a few creators rather than many.

Is the TikTok Creative Center free?
Yes. It’s TikTok’s free public tool for seeing trending hashtags, songs, creators, videos and top products.
What does #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt tell me?
It shows products people have bought because of TikTok videos. Treat it as a list of ideas, then check each one’s margin, shipping speed and competition yourself.
How do I know if a trend is too late?
If many sellers already list the same item at very low prices and Google Trends shows interest falling, you are probably late. Look for a variation, a bundle or a nearby niche instead.
Can I dropship trending TikTok products?
Only if your supplier can ship within TikTok Shop’s time limits. In the US that means handing orders to a carrier within 2 business days and delivering within 6, which slow overseas shipping usually can’t meet.
